Difference between precious gemstones and semi-precious gemstones?
The difference between precious gemstones and semi-precious gemstones may not be what you think. There's actually no scientific reason diamond, ruby, emerald, and sapphire are assigned to the precious stone category and placed all the other gemstones into the semi-precious category.
Precious gemstones receive their name for traditionally being the most expensive and sought after gemstones. Throughout history, people of nobility and status wanted to get their hands on these precious gems. Today, however, some semi-precious stones can be worth more than precious stones and can even be rarer. Still, we keep the four traditional precious stones in their own category because of their long celebrated history.
At Jedora, all gemstones are special, whether they are precious or semi-precious. Each gemstone has a unique meaning and value that's specific to you.
Don't forget to check out Jedora's semi-precious gemstones while exploring our site: alexandrite, agate, amethyst, aquamarine, garnet, moonstone, opal, pearl, peridot, rose quartz, tanzanite, turquoise, and zircon to name a few!
